Hi, I’m Megan – the traveling bartender behind Taste & Trot.

I’ve spent nearly a decade working in bars across three continents, building a life that blends global bartending, travel, and a deep love for hospitality. My journey started at 18, when I took my first bar job and absolutely hated it. But once I found my rhythm, I fell in love with the creativity, the people, and the endless opportunities to learn.

Today, at 28, I’m traveling the world while growing my skills in cocktail techniques, wine and spirits, and the kind of hands‑on experience you only get from working in bars internationally. Every new city, bar, and culture teaches me something different – and Taste & Trot is where I share those lessons.

What you’ll find here

Taste & Trot is built for both home bartenders and industry pros who want to deepen their craft. I share:

  • Practical bartending skills and techniques
  • Cocktail recipes inspired by global flavours
  • Travel stories shaped by the bars, people, and cultures I’ve met along the way
  • Honest insights into working and living abroad

My goal is simple: to help you build confidence behind the bar, explore new flavours, and maybe even spark the same passion for hospitality that changed my life

FAQ

10 years! It doesn’t feel that long but I got my first job at 18 and now I’m 28!

Once Covid hit, I started to get itchy feet. Christmas Day 2022 I booked a one-way trip to Canada for 2023 and never looked back.

The best thing about working in hospo is there us always demand, especially in the nice touristy areas. Having worked lined up is key to staying on top of finances.

Most hotel jobs need people who are nearby at all times just in case. Therefore, they offer onsite accommodation and usually food for a low rate or even free!

I left Ireland at 17, but it’s only the last three years I’ve been backpacking.

Just book the trip, give yourself a few months and use the deadline to your advantage. You’ll be surprised how quickly everything just falls into place.
