Packing makeup for travel can be tough, especially when you want to keep your luggage light. Right now, I’m in the UK with all my makeup, but I need to choose just a few items for my Australia trip. By taking less, I save on space and money. In warm weather, I wear less makeup because it can feel heavy and become oily. But I still like some coverage for sun protection and to hide any redness or blemishes. I’ve listed the makeup I use daily and added a few extra items for when I want to get more creative. I’ll explain why each one is a must-have in my travel bag.
My everyday make-up consists of:
- Facial sunscreen
- Primer
- Foundation
- Concealer
- Eyebrow Pencil
- Mascara
- Brow Mascara
- Brow Gel
- Eyeliner
- Setting Powder
- Setting Spray
- Lip Balm
Then a few extra items I am going to pack that aren’t important for my everyday looks but are great for events are:
- White Eyeliner
- Blue Eyeliner
- Eyeshadow palate
- Matte Lip Cream
- Lip Liner
- Lip Gloss

Sunscreen
My go to Sunscreen is the Bondi Sands Face SPF 50+. This stuff is great to use as a base or on a no make-up day. This is a tinted sunscreen that is suitable for all skins tones. Its fragrance free, cruelty free, and suitable for oily skin! Just make sure you shake well before use and thoroughly rub it into your skin to avoid any streaks. Just beware the bottle size is 120ml so make sure you pack it into your checked bag and not your carry on.
Base
For a base I like to use any of the ones by Revolution. Currently I am using the Hydrate and Hold primer. It’s super lightweight and water based, as well as being vegan and cruelty free. I like to apply it by mixing it in with my sunscreen and applying them together for a heavier make-up day.
Foundation
Il Makiage Woke Up Like This has been my go to foundation for years. It is also water based and lightweight and you can build up the coverage which is great. The bottle is made of glass and on the heavier side but I find the product is so good its worth the extra few grams.
Concealer
My next must have is my Elf camo concealer. I really love this stuff! it lasts all day and is really easy to blend into your skin. I always have this in my bit to cover spots and blemishes throughout the day and it’s ideal if you want to go for a no make-up kinda look.
Brows
We’re keeping brows super simple with the Revolution brow pencil to shape and define them. Then I go in with the NYX Thick It Stick It brow mascara. This effortlessly fills out the brows and makes them appear thicker. Finally, I use Revolution’s brow gel to keep my brows in place all day.
Lashes
For effortlessly long and thick lashes, I use the Lash it Loud by Elf. This is one of the best waterproof mascaras I’ve ever come across, so here’s hoping it can stand up to the Australian sea and sun.
Blush
If I need to add a splash of colour to my face I use Stop I’m Blushing from MIsguided. This blush is super pigmented so a little goes a long way and it’s nice and compact.
Powder
Then to set everything, I am currently using Revlon’s Photoready Blurring Powder. I really love this product, but I find the packaging to be a little bulky, and it takes up a lot of space for the size of the product. On the bright side, it does contain a mirror and a brush.
Eyeliner
If I want to elevate my look without putting in too much effort, my go-to is a quick wing. For this, my NYX Epic Wear liner is a must. It’s super easy to apply, and it’s waterproof, so it’s a win-win. This stuff also seems to last forever.
Setting Spray
Then to lock everything in place and pray it makes it through a day in the Australian summer, I use Revolution’s Ceramide Fix spray. In the UK, this stuff keeps my makeup in place all day long, so I have high hopes for it. It also smells incredible and is PETA approved.
Lips
I like to keep lips super simple so just a bit of Vaseline does the job for me, however i think I will be swapping this out in the future for a lip balm with high SPF protection. Sunburnt lips are no joke!!
I hope this quick list helps if you are trying to pack for a trip while keeping things light. I appreciate this may seem like a lot but I wanted to make sure I would have everything I could possible need. Throughout my trip I’ll keep you updated on what products were useful and not so good and what I actually ended up using a lot. To be honest I’m hoping to tone down my make-up use while I’m away to improve my skin while saving money.
Happy travels!!
