The mocktail and non-alcoholic world is really starting to awaken. We can finally move on from overpriced juices served in hurricane glasses. Making classic cocktails as mocktails is pretty difficult for even the most experienced bartender. And it’s not for lack of skill or want, but simply because it is sooo hard to replicate the flavour of alcohol without alcohol. Today I’m going to tell you how you can make a non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz, that’s just as bittersweet and refreshing as the real thing. You won’t believe how good this guilt free summer drink. tastes and best of all it won’t give you a headache!
The Ingredients
Now of course to make a non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz we will need some non-alcoholic ingredients. As we know a classic Aperol Spritz consists of three ingredients:
- Aperol
- Soda
- Prosecco
As soda water is of course non-alcoholic naturally we just need to source two ingredients for this guilt free summer drink.
Non-Alcoholic Aperol
There are plenty of brands popping up everywhere now offering non-alcoholic spirits. One of my favorite brands for this drink is Lyre’s Italian Spritz. This bittersweet and refreshing non-alcoholic spirit has notes of orange peel, with tart red fruit and a savoury, bitter herbal undertone. It even has the classic bright orange Aperol colour so no one will know your drinking. However, this is an Australian brand, and I don’t know how readily available it is or would cost to get overseas.
Another alternative is Wilfreds Orange and Rosemary spirit. Who boast low sugar, low calories and of course no booze in their take on non-alcoholic Aperol.
Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Wine
There are loads of options on the market right now for non-alcoholic wines and sparkling and Prosecco are no exception. For this recipe just go with your favourite. As long as its dry it will work well. A hint of citrus would make it the perfect match.
The Recipe for a Non-Alcoholic Aperol Spritz
For your non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz you can follow the same as the classic recipe. see Aperol Spritz recipe here for more details. here’s a quick rundown following the 3:2:1 ratio.
Start with a nice big wine glass and fill it with ice.
Then grab your jigger and add 2oz (60 ml) non-alcoholic Aperol
Next add 3oz (90ml) of non-alcoholic Prosecco.
Top up with 1oz (30ml) soda water.
Then gently ‘lift’ the contents with a bar spoon but avoid mixing
Add a straw, garnish with a fresh juicy orange wedge and sip away!
Thats it! super simple right? I can’t wait for you to try this bittersweet and refreshing guilt free summer drink.
